The Hegerberg , locally also Hohenberger Höger , is 1179  m above sea level. A. high mountain of the Gutenstein Alps in Lower Austria .

The mountain is a good 30 kilometers south of Sankt Pölten and 40 kilometers northwest of Neunkirchen . It is located 6 kilometers south of the Reisalpe  ( 1399  m above sea level ), with which it forms the Reisalpe – Hegerberg group, between the Göller-Gippel train , around 15 kilometers southwest, and the Unterberg-Jochart train to the east.

The Hegerberg rises as an even, triangular, wooded knoll between Hohenberg on the Unrecht Traisen to the west, the uppermost Halbachtal to the east and the headwaters of the Schwarza to the south. It forms the triple point of the watershed between the Traisen , its tributary Gölsen , which goes north to the Danube, and the Leitha , which flows eastwards into Hungary into the Danube. It also belongs to the main Alpine ridge , which is counted here in the foothills of the Alps towards the Wiener Pforte . It also forms the border between Lilienfeld and Neunkirchen .

At the foot of the mountain lie the towns of Hohenberg and Hofamt to the west , from which Hinterbergtal and Mosbachtal lead here, to the east the scattered areas Landshof, Heger and Halbachgscheid of the Kleinzeller locality Insideach with the pass of the Kalten Kuchl in the southeast, to the south the localities of Naglreith and Werasöd , which form the municipality of Rohr belong in the mountains , and southwest of the Ochsattel .

The name Hohenberger Höger stands in contrast to the Türnitzer Höger Traisental.

The mountain is rarely climbed.
