The Reisalpe is at 1399  m above sea level. A. the highest mountain in the Gutenstein Alps in Lower Austria .

Location, surroundings and view

The Reisalpe lies between Lilienfeld , Hohenberg and Kleinzell in the Lower Austrian district of Lilienfeld . The border between the municipal areas of Lilienfeld and Kleinzell runs over its summit.

The Reisalpe rises in a central position within the subgroup of the Gutenstein Alps named after it , which has a strong structure with numerous side ridges and branches. The summit structure in the narrower sense is formed by a short but wide ridge that runs roughly in a south-west-north-east direction. The western and northern flanks in particular also have steep, rocky sections.

Refuge on the Reisalpe , built and depicted in 1898

There is a Madonna and a summit cross near the summit. The Reisalpen-Schutzhaus , which opened on October 9, 1898 and is located just in the municipality of Kleinzell, is also located in the summit area.

The flat, treeless summit of the Reisalpe offers a free 360-degree panorama and is therefore one of the best vantage points in all of Lower Austria for good reasons. In good conditions, the panorama extends from the Plöckenstein in the Bohemian Forest over the southern parts of Moravia to the Little Carpathians in Slovakia and from the Schneeberg over the Ötscher and the Hochschwab group to the Großer Priel .

Climbs

The Reisalpe is a popular mountain for excursions, both for hikes in summer and for ski tours and snowshoe hikes in winter (as it is considered to be relatively less prone to avalanches).

The summit ridge of the Reisalpe is accessible via the marked Voralpenweg (long-distance hiking trail 04A) and is also on the Traisentaler Rundwanderweg and the Waldmarkweg . It can therefore be reached from a number of starting points on good paths, although a considerable difference in altitude has to be overcome when starting in the lower valley regions.

  • The 1020  m above sea level. A. The highest starting point is on the Ebenwaldhöhe . First under the steep western flank of the Hochstaff at almost the same height as the Kleinzeller Hinteralm , then ascent over the northeast flank of the Reisalpe with a steep section in the upper part. Walking time: about 1¾ hours.
  • When starting a tour on the Ebenwaldhöhe, a combination with the Hochstaff ( 1305  m above sea level ) is recommended in all seasons . The northeastern neighboring summit of the Reisalpe, which is almost 100 meters lower, also offers a good view.
  • From Kleinzell in a steady ascent to Weißenbachalm , then high- altitude hike over Zeißlalm to Kleinzeller Hinteralm and as described above to the summit. Walking time: around 3 hours.
  • From the Kumpfmühle in Halbachtal in a steep ascent to the Rumpel farmstead , on a flatter path to the Brennalm , finally over the long southwest ridge to the summit. Walking time: about 2½ hours.
  • Several marked ascent routes start in Furthof and Hohenberg in the valley of the Unrechttraisen . They unite at the latest near the Brennalm, then on over the southwest ridge to the summit. Walking time: around 3 hours each.
  • From Innerfahrafeld in the valley of the Unrechttraisen there is access to the Dürrental . From there about 1¾ hours to the summit.

The best starting point for snowshoe hikes in winter is the Ebenwaldhöhe. If there is enough snow, ski tours can be started at the Traisenbeck farmstead south of Kleinzell.
