The Masererpass is a 793 m high mountain pass in the Bavarian Alps , part of the Alps in Germany in the municipality of Reit im Winkl .
The pass is located in the south of Bavaria in the Chiemgau Alps around 4 km (as the crow flies ) east of the border with Austria . It connects the valley of the Tiroler Ache near Unterwössen in the north with the valley of the Schwarzlofer near Reit im Winkl in the south. The Maserer Pass lies between the Rachelspitz ( 1415 m ) in the north-northeast and the Walmberg ( 1062 m ) in the south.
A section of the German Alpine Road leads over the pass - as part of the B 305 . Despite the repeated expansion of the route, most recently around 1980, the pass can only be used with winter equipment at times. The pass is a serious obstacle for many tourists on their way to winter holidays. The approach to the pass from Oberwössen is the more problematic route, as it is steeper and more curvy than the approach from Reit im Winkl.
The water that collects in a small stream towards Oberwössen has been used for power supply since 1921. The water is dammed almost at the height of the pass and drives a turbine in the generator house at the entrance to Oberwössen.
The Staffeggalm , also called Masereralm , is located directly at the top of the pass .
A local association is also known as the Maserer Pass . This is a " Krampus -" or "Kramperl-Verein", which appears at a large number of public events in the Alpine and foothills of the Alps.
