Leitzach
The Leitzach is a 33.5 km long right or southern tributary of the Mangfall in the Bavarian Prealps , Bavaria ( Germany ). The Leitzach gives its name to the Leitzach Valley, part of which is called the Goldenes Tal shortly before it flows into the Mangfall .
course
The river arises from the confluence of many source streams in the Mangfall Mountains below the Original Pass . The main source stream is the Sillbach , which rises on the eastern slope of the Maroldschneid near the Wirthsalm. It then flows north in the original valley , from where it joins the Wackbach under the name Aubach , and turns north-west near Bayrischzell . From here the river is called Leitzach . It flows through the Leitzach valley to Feldkirchen-Westerham , where it flows into the Mangfall .
Water management
Before the Leitzach flows into the Mangfall, water has been withdrawn from the Mühlau since 1913 and channeled into the Seehamer See in a 6.7 km long tunnel , the reservoir of which is used to operate the Leitzachwerke . The water is directed into the Mangfall after an average of 24 hours , to which it would flow anyway.
Despite these building measures and the use of hydropower, the Leitzach has remained a largely natural river. Nevertheless, in the opinion of the water management authorities, the extraction of the water represents a serious interference with nature. Up to 7 m³ / s are extracted from the Leitzach in summer and up to 4.6 m³ / s in winter to keep up with the level of the Seehamer See to ensure its around 6,000,000 m³. It was not until 1978 that it was contractually regulated that the Leitzachwerke must leave at least 0.5 m³ / s in the river.
Localities
The villages on the Leitzach include Bayrischzell , Fischbachau , Wörnsmühl , Naring and Westerham .
