On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Wattersdorf was enlarged by the previously independent municipality of Holzolling as well as parts of the dissolved municipality of Gotzing and Neukirchen from the municipality of Irschenberg . The following day, May 2, 1978, the name of the parish was officially changed to Weyarn . In 2000, Weyarn represented Bavaria in the worldwide Dorf 2000 project at the EXPO 2000 world exhibition .
The municipality of Weyarn has been running active land management since 1983 with the aim of creating municipal property reserves for future developments and of providing low-income residential building land to lower-income citizens through the allocation of land under leasehold . Weyarn is also considered a prime example of active citizen participation and was named a "Citizen-Oriented Commune" by the Bertelsmann Foundation in 1999.

coat of arms
Description of the coat of arms ( blazon ): “Split by a silver wave pole. In front by a golden bar divided from red and green, occupied by a diagonally crossed, silver sword with a golden hilt and a golden key. In the back, in blue on a golden three-mountain, a red-armored, golden falcon with a red collar and a gold neck ring. "
The front part of the coat of arms is the coat of arms of the Weyarn monastery with the attributes of the apostles Peter and Paul (key and sword). This should make clear the great importance of the monastery in the course of the community's history. The other half of the coat of arms with the falcon quotes the coat of arms of the Counts of Falkenstein, who founded the monastery.
