geography

The community is embedded in the Munich gravel plain . The Mangfall winds through an untouched and pristine landscape. The Teufelsgraben runs in the north .

The municipality has 18 officially named municipal parts (the type of settlement is indicated in brackets ):

With the incorporation of part of the Hofoldinger Forest on January 1st, 2011, the area of the municipality increased slightly by 1682 m².

history

The name of the village of Valley probably goes back to the Celtic goddess Fallada, which is suggested by excavations from that time. This would make Valley the oldest village in the northern part of the Miesbach district, if not the oldest settlement in the entire district. The copy of a Roman milestone (the original is in the Archaeological State Collection in Munich) refers to the importance of the place, which was once able to underline its power through the Burg Valley . Before 1800, Valley was the seat of an Upper and Lower Court of the county of the same name . It belonged to the Counts of Rheinstein and Tattenbach for about 150 years until it was taken over by Count Arco on Oberköllnbach in 1821 . In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1818, Valley became an independent political municipality . Even today the influence of the Counts Arco on Valley can be seen in the community. B. in the coat of arms, which contains arches on a golden shield according to the family coat of arms of the Counts Arco ("Arco" is the Italian word for arch ).

Furthermore, does Frank Duval here for shooters Valleyer a march composed. Michael Ende lived in the so-called Old Castle for many years.

On May 1, 1978 parts of the area of the dissolved municipality of Föching were incorporated.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018, the municipality grew from 2,256 to 3,369 by 1,113 inhabitants or 49.3% - the strongest percentage growth in the district in the period mentioned.

Community partnerships

Valley's partner municipality is Fontanella in the Italian region of Lombardy .

Radio station

Valley is known in the press especially in connection with the now decommissioned Radio Free Europe transmitter for short wave and medium wave . This system went into operation in 1951, was operated by the International Broadcasting Bureau (IBB) of the USA and served to supply the residents of Eastern Europe with Western news . The transmitters used had outputs of up to 250 kilowatts (short wave). According to expert findings, they contributed to the crash of a Tornado fighter aircraft of the German Air Force near Oberlainder in 1984 through electromagnetic influences . In addition, many residents complained about health problems.

After 1989, the number of shipments to Eastern Europe was reduced so that the system was unnecessary, shut down in 2003 and completely dismantled in summer 2004 with federal funds. The citizens' initiative Senderfreies Oberland played a major role in the shutdown of the station .

A study published in 2007, which was carried out on behalf of the municipality, shows a connection between the electromagnetic fields of the system and the health disorders.

Today there is a modern golf course on the former IBB site.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

The community area extends on both sides of the federal highway 8 and is located 6 km east of Holzkirchen , 36 km southeast of the state capital Munich , 13 km north of Miesbach , 22 km west of Bad Aibling and 32 km from Rosenheim . There are no exits; the closest connection points are Holzkirchen and Weyarn, which can only be reached by a bit of a detour.

The autobahn, which is one of the busiest German federal autobahns, runs relatively close to the districts of Unterdarching, Mitterdarching and Unterlainders. The increasing noise and fine dust pollution in these areas gave rise to the establishment of a citizens' initiative that advocates speed restrictions or, alternatively, a noise barrier . The cause is also supported by the community.

The most important supra-local connection for the community itself is the state road 2073, which leads from Holzkirchen via Weyarn to the district town of Miesbach. It runs through the villages of Oberlainder and Mitterdarching and is not particularly well developed; the lack of a cycle path in particular has often given rise to criticism. The other villages are connected by county and municipal roads, some of which are even in better condition.

Kreuzstrasse station

Valley also has two train stations named after the respective districts: Kreuzstrasse at the junction of the Munich-Giesing – Kreuzstrasse railway line from the Mangfall Valley Railway , and Darching on the Holzkirchen – Schliersee railway line . The Munich S-Bahn S7 runs every hour from Kreuzstraße to Munich city center and on to Wolfratshausen . Furthermore, the Bayerische Oberlandbahn runs under the Meridian brand at least every hour from Holzkirchen via Kreuzstrasse and Bad Aibling to Rosenheim ("E-Netz Rosenheim"; operated by Deutsche Bahn until December 2013). Darching station is served by the Bayerische Oberlandbahn every hour.

There is also a regional bus route from Holzkirchen via Oberlainder, Unterdarching and Mitterdarching to Weyarn and Miesbach. It is mainly used for school traffic.

In addition, two fighter aircraft crashes were recorded in the municipality. In 1970 a starfighter crashed near Oberlainder and a tornado in 1984 near Unterlainder .

Established businesses

Flight laboratory in Oberlainder

The Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics operates a test center for building materials in the Oberlainder district. There, various materials are specifically exposed to the weather, either through simple exposure or by attachment to specially prepared building facades, which leads to a peculiar design of the buildings on the site. Although the facility calls itself the Holzkirchen testing center , it is located in the Valley municipal area.

There is also a 30-meter-long flight laboratory (FTF - Flight Test Facility), which is unique in the world and consists of a low-pressure chamber ( 150 hPa / absolute) with an approximately 15-meter-long aircraft segment of an Airbus A310 inside . Up to 80 passengers can realistically be exposed to the typical conditions of a long-haul flight. The aim of the research is to improve comfort, the cabin climate and materials.

The European headquarters of Avery Zweckform is also located in Oberla letern. The predecessor company Zweckform Schreibwaren und Bürobedarfs GmbH was founded here in 1946 in a former cowshed.

The Valley Medicine Park was opened in 2010 in the immediate vicinity on the same site. The companies Vallife GmbH, Crawford Healthcare and OPED GmbH are united under its roof . With the VACOped, the latter is the market leader in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and with around 350 employees is one of the largest employers in the municipality.

Since 2012, ellhol GmbH (design, manufacture and sales) of material for activation and employment for seniors (especially those with dementia) has been in the Oberdarching district.
