The Hofoldinger Forest is a forest area south of Munich. It was parish -free until it was incorporated into the surrounding parishes on January 1, 2011. Since then, 88.5 percent of the forest has belonged to the Munich district and 11.5 percent to the Miesbach district .

history

The forest owes its name to the former Hofmark and later the municipality of Hofolding north of the forest, which has belonged to Brunnthal since 1978.

In 1963 the Hofoldinger Forest was planned as one of the possible locations of the new Munich airport . It was not until 1969 that planning was set for the north of Munich.

Before the district reform (as of July 1, 1972), the southern part of the community-free area with an area of 1012.86 hectares belonged to the Bad Aibling district and was called Hofoldinger Forst-Süd , the northern part with an area of 1702.96 hectares belonged to the district of Munich with the name Hofoldinger Forst-Nord . The current total area of the Hofoldinger Forest as of December 31, 2008 is 2723.21 hectares. On January 1, 2011, the community-free area was incorporated into the neighboring communities.

The areas Hofoldinger Forst-Nord and Hofoldinger Forst-Süd, which were separate until 1972 because they belonged to different districts, correspond to the existing districts of the same name, with the district codes 8719 and 8721.

As of January 1, 2011, the community-free area was dissolved.

geography

The more than 27 square kilometers large forest and recreation area is located south of Munich between Sauerlach in the west and Aying in the east. It extends over the municipal area of Aying, Brunnthal , Otterfing , Sauerlach and Valley . The area of the area of 2723.20  hectares was distributed among the receiving municipalities and districts as follows (data in hectares):

local community surface District
Brunnthal 000000000001102.42000000001,102.42 hectares Hofolding
Aying 000000000001037.89000000001,037.89 hectares Helfendorf

Valley 000000000000000.17000000000.17 ha Foching

Since Otterfing and Valley belong to the district of Miesbach , the area of this district grew by 275.65 hectares, while the area of the district of Munich decreased by the same amount.

The Hofoldinger Forest consists largely of spruce wood . Recently, however, a lot of mixed forest has been planted, because the forest is more resistant to strong storms. The Hofoldinger Forest is a popular local recreation area, especially for walkers, cyclists and inline skiers. The starting point for your tours are two asphalt roads that lead from Otterfing through the forest in the direction of Hofolding and Kreuzstraße and the district road M9 between Kreuzstraße and Faistenhaar.

structure

Of the eight state forest districts of the entire state forest, which correspond to fields , seven are in the formerly community-free area of Hofoldinger Forst. In each case, it is indicated to which municipalities they were mainly given on January 1, 2011. The state forest districts are further subdivided into numbered sections of the same size (about 19 hectares each ), delimited by squares. These correspond to parcels . Only where the area borders on neighboring municipalities are the divisions usually smaller, as the squares are not completely within the area.

  • State forest district I Föhrert (northeast) (municipality of Brunnthal)
  • State Forest District II Weitforst (Weit Forst) (North) (Municipality of Brunnthal)
  • State Forest District III Oetz (East) (Aying municipality)
  • State forest district IV Buchet (center) (municipality of Brunnthal)
  • State forest district V Hirschbrunn (south) (Aying municipality)
  • State forest district VI Wolfsgrub (west) (municipality of Sauerlach)
  • State Forest District VII Sulz (northwest) (Sauerlach municipality)
  • State Forest District VIII Reiss (north, belonging to the municipality of Brunnthal )

Traffic routes

The A8 (Munich-Salzburg) cuts the area in north-south direction over a length of 6.48 kilometers. The motorway junction north of the area bears the name “Hofoldinger Forst”, as does the rest stop further north . The Otterfing (southbound) and Aying (northbound) motorway car parks are in the area .

The former Roman road Via Julia runs in a west-east direction, the course of which can still be seen today. The route is partly used as a cycle path.
