Oberköllnbach is a district of the municipality of Postau in the Lower Bavarian district of Landshut . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality.

location

The street village of Oberköllnbach is located about three kilometers northwest of Postau on the right bank of the Hagmühlbach in the Danube-Isar hill country . In the southeast, the village of Hofberg with the handsome castle complex of Schloss Oberköllnbach is immediately adjacent , and further south is the village of Unterköllnbach.

history

The first grave finds around Oberköllnbach go back to the year 700 AD, when the Bavarians came from Bohemia to Old Bavaria during the migration of peoples . The name of the place Köllnbach, which means Colinpah in Old High German and means "Quellbach", also comes from the Bavarian period. In the post-medieval period it became Ober- and Niederköllnbach and only in the 18th century became today's Unterköllnbach.

Old information about a Köllnbach is often assigned to the place Großköllnbach in today's district of Dingolfing-Landau . Certainly only a statement from the 13th century refers to Oberköllnbach, when a bourgeois family named after Köllnbach can be traced in Landshut . The oldest landowner in Köllnbach is an ecclesiastical institution, over whose property the duke exercised the bailiff's rights in the late 13th century. Around 1500 the Hofmark included the places Ober- and Unterköllnbach, Au, Veitsbuch and three other estates. It is certain that until the 15th century, Unterköllnbach only consisted of two courtyards, while what is now Oberköllnbach was the center of Köllnbach.

The further history of the village is closely intertwined with the history of Oberköllnbach Castle. Within the scope of the castle property, all professions were exercised that were necessary for its maintenance, but these were not independent craft businesses in the current sense. The other residents belonged to the unfree peasant class and had to pay taxes to the landlord, first in kind, later in cash, and to do labor on the estate. With the exception of hunting and fishing, they were entitled to usufruct of the forest, water and pasture. If they were minor offenses, they were also subject to the landlord's court, who was able to use it financially by fines. Capital crimes, however, had to be referred to the ducal district court.

During the Thirty Years' War (1618 to 1648) the population fled to the castle with cattle and other belongings, and the then lord of the castle, Ladislaus von Törring, tried to defend his manor, but did not succeed. The Swedes stormed the castle and lived in it in a terrible way. The lord of the castle had just managed to save himself by fleeing. The underground escape routes, one of which has been partially preserved in Oberköllnbach, also date from the time of the Thirty Years' War.

In the year of the inventory in 1752 the Counts Arco auf Valley were owners of the Hofmark Oberköllnbach with the parts Hofberg and Armannsberg. At that time, the village housed numerous farmers and cottagers as well as some craftsmen in 31 properties. In 1840 Oberköllnbach had 35 houses with 195 inhabitants.

In the revolutionary year of 1848, the civil and lordly jurisdiction passed to the state. The political communities emerged. In the middle of the 19th century, the rural village of Oberköllnbach and the typical Hofberg estate were clearly separated from each other structurally and functionally. Then the valley floor along the connecting road was built and the separation was lifted. In 1970 Oberköllnbach had 226 and Hofberg 181 inhabitants.

The municipality of Oberköllnbach was considerably enlarged in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria on October 1, 1971 by merging with the municipality of Moosthann , but came to the municipality of Postau on May 1, 1978.
