history

Moosthann, popularly known as z Thann , was probably created in the 8th century through clearing. It was first mentioned in documents in 1271, when, after the last will of Duchess Elisabeth, who died on October 24th of this year, her husband Heinrich XIII. transferred the place to the Seligenthal monastery in Landshut .

Initially, the place was not owned by the monastery for long, because the Harder family appeared as owners of Hofmark Moosthann between 1335 and 1397 . The family had an armored arm with a sword in their coat of arms, and this symbol also became the local coat of arms.

In 1410 the Jud family, who also owned Unholzing , acquired the property. The Jews were an old Bavarian noble family, their name is still preserved in the name Judenschlag in the state forest. The Hofmarkschloss was probably located on today's Selmer estate, because in the description of the country by Philipp Apian from 1568 it says: "Moosdan, village and church, ruins of an old castle on the Hornpach".

Towards the end of the 16th century, Hofmark Moosthann came back into the possession of the Seligenthal monastery and remained in the monastery until the secularization in Bavaria in 1803. The municipality of Moosthann was integrated into the municipality of Oberköllnbach as part of the regional reform in Bavaria on October 1, 1971 , and finally came to the municipality of Postau on May 1, 1978.
