The Oberköllnbach lock (also: lock Hofberg ) in Oberköllnbach , a part of Postau in the district of Landshut , is a stately, baroque castle on the so-called Hofberg above the village.

history

A Roman settlement or a villa rustica , a Roman country estate, could have stood in the place of today's castle as early as ancient times . Settlement of Köllnbach is not certain until around 500, when Bavarians settled here. In 1295 a castle was built on the Hofberg, the predecessor of the palace complex. The lords of Köllnbach resided there for centuries. The hilltop castle was pillaged during the Thirty Years War by the Swedes, so Franz Graf von Haunsperg around 1695 until shortly after 1700 a new palace complex of Giovanni Antonio Viscardi in Baroque style was built. The Count did not live to see the completion of his new seat. His daughter Maria Febronia married Count Leopold von Arco in 1700, so that Oberköllnbach was owned by the Counts of Arco-Valley until 1971 .

Until 1960, the Schlossbrauerei Oberköllnbach was one of several breweries owned by the Counts of Arco-Valley, which were merged to form the Arcobräu Brewery in Moos in the Deggendorf district .

description

The main building is a three-story four-wing complex around a small inner courtyard in the Baroque style. The south gable of the west wing has a rustication , pilasters and a tail gable . The representation rooms inside the castle are richly decorated with stucco. The Gothic castle chapel of St. Achatius was redesigned in Baroque style around 1700.

In front of the western entrance there is a two-storey caretaker's house with a gable roof, which was built in the course of the 18th century. The entrance to the castle grounds is through a gate with an administrative wing, also a two-storey saddle roof building, which can be attributed to the time the castle was built. Through the passage to the castle courtyard with a beautiful fountain is located directly under the representative gate tower.

There are also former brewery and farm buildings on the castle grounds .
