Former castle and school house

Vilsheim Castle is a former castle in the municipality of Vilsheim in the Landshut district in Bavaria . A successor building erected in 1908 served as a school building until the 1970s.

history

Vilsheim was first part of the ecclesiastical property of the bishops of Freising, then secular fortress. In the 14th century, the village and Vilsheim Castle belonged to the wealthy Mautner von Katzenberg family , then to the noble Pusch family, who resided in Vilsheim until the 16th century. In the following centuries, Vilsheim was the seat of well-known families such as the Cosenberger, the Wagner von Sattelbogen , the Preysing , the Count Sedlinzki and the barons of Guggenmoos and von Mettingh. After Moritz von Mettingh's death in 1908, the castle was demolished and a school building was built over it. It served this purpose until the 1970s, but then became private property.
