Furth Castle is a castle in Furth in the Lower Bavarian district of Landshut . Today it houses a Caritas retirement home .

history

The old Bavarian noble family von Kärgl (Chärglein) had rights in Furth since the end of the 13th century and owned the Hofmark Furth from the 15th century to 1615 at the latest . In 1640 the over-indebted Hofmark and the associated castle were acquired by Count Franz Anton zu Lodron . In 1781 ownership passed to Ferdinand Baron von Wadenspann, and in 1818 to Ferdinand Anton von Hornstein. Major renovations gave the castle a new look. The Baron von Hornstein'sche Patrimonial Court Furth was dissolved like all remaining patrimonial courts in the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1848 . Furth took over from Hornstein's son Matthäus in 1875. The high ground floor was redesigned as living space, the castle pond was filled and the walls and towers were put down. In 1936, Matthäus' wife Philomena bequeathed the castle to the bishopric of Regensburg . In 1970 the castle was purchased by the Caritas Association and converted into a retirement home.
