Weihenstephan Castle
The Weihenstephan Castle is a moated castle in Weihenstephan, a district of Hohenthann , and is located about eleven kilometers north of Landshut. The castle and the surrounding farm buildings are now owned by Deroy von Fürstenberg .
history
The Weihenstephan Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1229. For a long time it formed a court mark . The current facility was built by Georg Carl Freiherr von Etzdorf auf Weihenstephan and Stamsried († 1712) on the site of a previous building.
In August 2006, the castle's farm buildings burned, some of which had to be demolished as a result. The damage was probably caused by a defect in an electrical system and amounted to around one million euros.
On January 3, 2007, 14-year-old Felix von Quistorp , the lord's grandson, was found dead in a fountain on the castle grounds . He had probably fallen in from a low height a few days earlier. Numerous media, including national media, reported on the tragic accident at the time.
description
Weihenstephan Castle is a baroque complex with a water moat running around it from the 17th century, which was changed in the 18th century and possibly later. The residential building is a two-storey hipped mansard roof with lavishly designed shutters . The surrounding farm buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries are essentially divided into a north and east wing. In the north wing there is a passage that is in line with the portal of the residential building. A little to the east of the castle, on the old road towards Landshut, there are two massive gate pavilions, also with a mansard hipped roof, which were built in 1950.
Castle chapel
The St. Sebastian Palace Chapel is on the opposite side of the street . The small, rectangular hall church with pilaster and pilaster structure, which has a turret with an onion dome, dates from the middle of the 17th century and is now used as a mortuary. It is located north of the castle and is also entered in the list of monuments.
