Coat of arms of the Quistorp family

Quistorp is the name of a Protestant north German family. The family's name is first mentioned in a document with Johan Quitzstorp in 1364 and can probably be traced back to the locator family of the village of the same name in Holstein . Several generations of university professors in Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania became known from the 17th century .

The family probably came from the old German areas to Holstein in the course of the eastern colonization in the 12th century and later to Pomerania via Rostock. In 1455 Marquar (t) Quistorpp and after him in 1472 Hinrik Quistorp were mentioned in a document as Hufner in Neudorf, a new establishment between Quisdorf and Eutin . The safe trunk series begins with Marquart Quistorpp , documented in 1542, Vollhufner on Neudorf.

From the family, which joined the Evangelical Lutheran faith around 1535, numerous scholars emerged, in particular a number of well-known theologians in the 17th and 18th centuries in Rostock and Greifswald , who were not only committed to the faith in the cities, but also work for the common good. The older Rostock family branch continued the theological tradition. In the Greifswald family branch followed u. a. two Schill 'sche officers and some landowners to Krenzow and Zarentin, then also Rubkow (municipality Rubkow ) and later in Bauer and Wehrland (municipality Zemitz ) in Western Pomerania. Of them, Dr. phil. Johann Quistorp ennobled in 1782. In the younger Rostock family branch there were several pharmacists and with Prof. Dr. jur. Johann von Quistorp a criminal law scholar. He was ennobled on June 22, 1792 with the addition "Edler v.".

In a sketch by Friedrich von Gützkower Hünengrab from 1802, Quistorp was immortalized lying on it and smoking a pipe.

With their larger property in the area of Lassan in the district of Greifswald, those of Quistorp were members of the local district council. In the district house there was a coat of arms frieze of all 24 landlords and the three towns of the district, including that of Quistorp.
