Alexandra Countess Lambsdorff (born July 28, 1945 in Hage , East Friesland , as Alexandra von Quistorp ) is a German manager . Countess Lambsdorff was the founder and longstanding treasurer of the German-Russian Forum and a member of the steering committee of the Petersburg Dialogue .

Life

As a child, Alexandra von Quistorp wanted to become an officer or pilot. She attended high schools in East Friesland and Berlin and studied economics in Berlin , Freiburg and Bonn . In 1971 she completed her studies at the University of Bonn with a degree in economics. She was the keynote speaker at the 2016 University Festival.

After starting her career as a consultant at the German Savings Banks and Giro Association , she took on management positions in various companies in the banking industry. In 1983 she was appointed department director to head the board secretariat of the federally owned Deutsche Siedlungs- und Landesrentenbank (DSL) . The qualified economist was a member of the board of directors of the Luxembourg subsidiary of Landesbank Rheinland-Pfalz until 1989 , before Bankhaus Lampe brought her to Düsseldorf as a general representative . In a publicly noticed legal dispute, the employment contract was terminated prematurely against payment of a severance payment of DM 120,000. Countess Lambsdorff donated the severance payment to the foundation for children with cancer in Düsseldorf. Until 2010 she was managing director of Von der Wenge GmbH in Bonn.

Countess Lambsdorff was the founder and treasurer of the German-Russian Forum for many years . In 2013, Countess Lambsdorff was awarded the Dr. Friedrich Joseph Haass Prize by the German-Russian Forum for her commitment . She has since turned her back on the German-Russian Forum. “I totally failed with that. That's the great frustration of my last few years, ”she confessed in an interview. From her point of view, there is now no opposition under Russian President Vladimir Putin , and she added: "It is always a mystery to me how successful his propaganda is now in Germany too."

From 1981 to 1990, from 1986 to 1990, she was chairwoman of the advisory board of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom . She was also a member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees from 1987 to 1995.

Countess Lambsdorff is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bonn International Democracy Prize . In addition, she is the founder and chairwoman of the board of trustees of the Quistorp Foundation, and chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Bonn Hospice Foundation. The Quistorp Foundation was established on December 14, 1990 as a non-incorporated foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to promote science and research. The foundation awards a multi-year doctoral scholarship approximately once a year, but individual measures at the University of Rostock are also funded. From 2013 to 2019 she was a member of the supervisory board of the University Hospital Bonn.

On October 4, 2005 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on the ribbon.

Countess Lambsdorff was President of the International Club La Redoute Bonn eV until July 2017. The International Club La Redoute Bonn eV was the meeting point of the Diplomatic Corps during Bonn's capital city and serves the federal government for state receptions. After moving to Berlin, Countess Lambsdorff contributed to the realignment of the club. Thanks to her contacts, she brought prominent speakers for the club, whom she also introduced and moderated thematically. The guests included, for example, the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán , Gregor Gysi as well as Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann . Since 2017 she has been a partner in the Center for Liberal Modernism (LibMod), newly founded by Ralf Fücks and Marieluise Beck . Since October 31, 2018, she has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Deutsche Demenzhilfe - DZNE Foundation for Brain and Health. On July 1, 2019, Countess Lambsdorff took over a seat on the Board of Trustees of the German Foundation Center in the Stifterverband.

Alexandra von Quistorp was born as the daughter of Alexander von Quistorp (1892–1974) as the youngest of five children. The eldest sister Maria was married to Wernher von Braun . In 1975 she married the politician Otto Graf Lambsdorff . Her nephew, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff , represented the FDP in the European Parliament from 2004 to 2017 , and has been a member of the Bundestag for the FDP since 2017 .
