Johann Nikolaus Quistorp
Johann Nikolaus Quistorp , also Johann Nicolaus Quistorp (born January 6, 1651 in Rostock ; † August 9, 1715 ibid) was a Protestant theologian, pastor, superintendent of Rostock and professor at the University of Rostock .
Life
He was the eldest son of the younger Johann Quistorp and Sophia Scharfenberg, daughter of a mayor of Rostock. After attending grammar school in Güstrow , he began studying at Rostock University in 1668. The following year his father called him back home to prepare him for his successor, but died shortly afterwards. Quistorp then went on a long study trip through Germany and the Netherlands, Danzig , Koenigsberg and Copenhagen . In 1674 he returned and began teaching at the University of Rostock.
In 1676 he was elected deacon to St. Nicolai . In 1682 the University of Greifswald awarded him the degree of licentiate in theology. In 1684 he was elected pastor to St. Nicolai. In 1686 he received his doctorate in theology and in 1693 he was appointed professor of theology at the University of Rostock. In 1702 he was appointed superintendent after the position had been vacant since 1675, as the Spiritual Ministry and the Council could not agree on a candidate. In 1706 he introduced confirmation in Rostock.
family
In 1677 he married Margarethe Elisabeth Berckow (1656–1692), daughter of the lawyer Daniel Berckow. The theologian Bernhard Friedrich Quistorp descends from the son Lorenz Gottfried Quistorp . After his first wife died giving birth to a pair of twins, he married Christina Lenten (1669–1753), a daughter of Johann Hugo von Lente , in 1695 . The daughter Anna Christina from this marriage became the mother of Wilhelm Alexander Schwollmann .
His life-size portrait hung in the Nikolaikirche for a long time and is now in the Marienkirche .
