Johann Jakob Quistorp
Johann Jakob Quistorp (born March 19, 1717 in Rostock ; † December 25, 1766 there ) was a German theologian.
Johann Jakob Quistorp was the eldest son of the Rostock businessman and council member Lorenz Gottfried Quistorp (1691–1743) and his wife, the Rostock businessman's daughter Anna Maria, née. Berg (1695-1731).
From 1734 he studied theology in Rostock. In 1739 he went via Wismar, Lübeck and Kiel to Altenhof in Holstein, where he was the private teacher of Cay Friedrich von Reventlow's three sons (1685–1762) for a year. Together with his brother Bernhard Friedrich , he then continued his studies in Jena. In 1742 both returned to Rostock. Here on April 3, he was awarded his master's degree from the Faculty of Philosophy.
After Johann Jakob had received an extraordinary chair in world wisdom in Kiel in 1743, he married Catharina Theresia Dallin, the daughter of a ducal Holstein captain, a year later.
In July 1747 Quistorp became court preacher and councilor of the prince-bishop of Lübeck zu Eutin . He stayed here until November 10, 1754, after which he went back to Rostock, where he was elected pastor at the Nikolaikirche . A year later he was given the chair for metaphysics.
In 1759 he received his doctorate and took over the office of rector for the first time. In 1761 and 1764 he was also rector of Rostock University. He died after more than a year of illness.
His sons Gottfried (1755–1835) and Johann (1758–1834) became professors in Greifswald.
