Johann Gottfried Quistorp

Johann Gottfried Quistorp (born April 16, 1755 in Rostock ; † March 1, 1835 in Greifswald ) was a German architect , painter and university professor .

Life

Johann Gottfried Quistorp was the fifth of nine children of the theology professor and pastor Johann Jakob Quistorp (1717–1766) and his wife Catharina Theresia, born. Dallin. After the early death of his father, he completed his school and study days with his uncle in Greifswald. For further artistic training he went to Berlin , Leipzig and Dresden in 1781/1782 .

In 1788 he became a university master builder and academic drawing teacher in Greifswald. He headed the drawing room at the University of Greifswald , which formed the starting point for the later Caspar David Friedrich Institute . Among his students were u. a. Caspar David Friedrich , Wilhelm Titel , Anton Heinrich Gladrow and Gottlieb Giese (painter and master builder in Greifswald). He was friends with Friedrich and accompanied him on his sketch tours in Western Pomerania.

The "Quistorp houses", some of which are still preserved today, were built during this time. One of them is e.g. B. the Quistorp building named after him of the Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald, which today contains the museum's picture gallery.

In 1796 he married Sarah Linde, who died less than a year later. In 1812 he also became an adjunct for the subject of construction and field measurement art of the philosophical faculty for applied mathematics. In 1817 he received the doctoral hat for philosophy. The Quistorpweg in Groß Schönwalde (now part of Greifswald) is named after him.

Quistorp died childless.
