Arno from Arndt

Willibald Arno Arndt , von Arndt since 1885 , (born March 9, 1835 in Rothebude near Kowahlen , † December 3, 1902 in Baden-Baden ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Arndt was the son of forester Carl Moritz Arndt and his wife Clementine, née Helbig. His grandfather was the freedom poet Ernst Moritz Arndt . His grandmothers came from the extensive Quistorp and Frege families .

Military career

He was captain in the infantry regiment "von Horn" (3rd Rheinisches) No. 29 and from March 21, 1880 to January 11, 1884, commander of the Kurhessian Jäger Battalion No. 11 .

In recognition of his services to the Kingdom of Prussia , he was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility on September 16, 1885 in Karlsruhe . At that time he was a colonel and commander of the 2nd Baden Grenadier Regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm I." No. 110 .

On March 17, 1894, Arndt was appointed governor of Metz and received in this position on April 18, 1896 the character of general of the infantry. On July 7, 1896, he was put up for disposal with the statutory pension in approval of his resignation request. After his departure, Arndt was awarded the Grand Cross of the Bavarian Order of Military Merit on October 3, 1896 .

family

He married on October 10, 1863 in Trier, Catharina Elisabeth Charlotte Linz (1840–1898), a daughter of the secret government councilor Posa Claudius Linz . The couple had five children, of whom only the two sons reached adulthood.
