As farm buildings , mainly in Switzerland, even officially, as farm buildings referred to are usually building in a property that is not for occupancy are intended, but for purposes of economic activity. However, commercial buildings are not included.

Agricultural farm buildings

In an agricultural property, all buildings except the residential house and the moving house are referred to as farm buildings . The term is still often used today for new barns , stables , shed houses and shelters, especially in the administrative environment ( spatial planning , building permit procedures ).

In the case of a stable integrated into a farmhouse ( residential stable ) or a barn, the terms economic part or economic part are correct.

Stately farm buildings

In a manorial property, the main building, which served as the residence of the lordship , as well as cavalier houses, summer houses and garden houses and buildings for the fortification of the property, are not considered farm buildings . In monasteries , buildings that have no sacred function or are used for study, such as libraries and scriptoria , and which are not intended for living, are regarded as farm buildings.
