Sixtus Lampl (born August 6, 1941 in Schliersee ) is a German art historian and musicologist. He was senior curator at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation and is the founder and owner of the Valley Organ Center .

life and work

Sixtus Lampl already received organ lessons during his high school days in Schäftlarn and Tegernsee. After graduating from high school, he studied philosophy, theology, church and art history and musicology at the LMU Munich . He received his doctorate in 1972 with a thesis on The Tegernsee Monastery Church under Norbert Lieb and initially worked as a university assistant before he was employed as a curator at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation in 1977. In 2006 he retired.

In 1980 he was entrusted with the care of historic organs throughout Bavaria as an organ consultant.

As part of these activities, in 1983 he tried to save the Koulen organ from St. Martin in Landshut , built in 1914 , one of the last great romantic organs in Bavaria, from being scrapped. Since there was no interested party for such a large instrument, he finally bought it himself. When no suitable location could be found for this organ, he and his wife Inge purchased the ruins of the old castle in Valley in 1987 , restored it and turned it into an organ museum.

In 1993 he had a baroque Bundwerkstadel and in 2001 a former sawmill in "customs construction" transferred to the organ center area, which are now used as a depot, exhibition and concert hall.

There are currently more than 60 organs of various designs in the organ center. 24 of them are ready to play again and are regularly presented by Lampl as part of guided tours, and well-known organists give concerts there.

Lampl is the author of numerous art history publications and church guide and runs the Valley publishing house . He leads four choirs and orchestras: the Valley Baroque Music Friends, the Oberdarching-Laind church choir, the Valley Castle Orchestra and the Valley men's choir.
