Bavarian Benedictine Academy
The Bavarian Benedictine Academy is an organization supported by the German-speaking Benedictine monasteries to promote science and art.
History and purpose of the Bavarian Benedictine Academy
The academy was founded at the suggestion of Father Laurentius Hanser OSB, archivist of the Scheyern Monastery , by the 23rd General Chapter of the Bavarian Benedictine Congregation on March 30, 1921 in Plankstetten . The purpose of the academy is to promote scientific activity in the field of religious history, liturgical science and other sciences that are of particular interest to the Benedictine monasteries. She therefore wants to arouse interest in scientific and artistic work among the younger members of the monasteries; In addition, it serves the exchange and discourse of the members of the order active in the field of science and art (cf. Statutes of Nov. 16, 2002, §§ 1–2). The academy has the status of a registered association based in Munich.
The Academy's publication organs are the studies and communications on the history of the Benedictine order and its branches as well as the Germania Benedictina (history of all existing and perished Benedictine monasteries in the German-speaking area).
