Peter B. Steiner

Peter B. Steiner (born February 26, 1942 in Munich ) is a German art historian .

Life

Steiner graduated from elementary school and grammar school in Munich between 1948 and 1961. He studied business administration, German, art history , philosophy and classical archeology in Munich and Vienna and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. He then initially worked for the Schnell und Steiner publishing house and at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation.

In 1973 he was first managing director of the diocesan museum in Freisig and in 1974 conservator there. In 1979 he was appointed director of the museum, a position he held until his retirement in 2007. The museum in Freising is one of the largest museums for Christian art in the world. Steiner was chairman of the Bavarian Museum Association between 1995 and 2006. He held teaching positions at the universities of Munich and Eichstätt.

Since 2007 he has been honorary professor for art history at the Technical University of Munich .
