Andrei Nikolajewitsch Subbotin ( Russian Андрей Николаевич Субботин ; born February 1, 1973 in Tomsk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player . His younger brother Dmitri is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Andrei Subbotin began his career as a hockey player at HK CSKA Moscow , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Vysschaya League , the highest Soviet division, in the 1991/92 season . During the season he switched to his league rivals Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg , for whom he was active in the International Hockey League from 1992 to 1995 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union . In the following eight years, the winger was under contract with HK Awangard Omsk , with whom he first played another year in the International Hockey League before he ran up to 2003 for Omsk in their successor, the Super League . During his time at Awangard he became a permanent fixture in the top Russian league and even received the Ironman Award in the 2002/03 season as the player with the most appearances in the Super League in the last three seasons.

The 2003/04 season spent Subbotin at HC Sibir Novosibirsk . He then returned to Awangard Omsk, which won the championship last year. After only eight more Super League appearances, he signed again with Sibir Novosibirsk, for which he continued to play in the Super League until 2008. For the 2008/09 season , the Russian was obliged by his ex-club Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. For this he completed a season in the Wysschaja Liga , the second Russian division. Subsequently, the club was included in the Continental Hockey League founded a year earlier . In his first KHL season, the former national player scored 13 goals and provided 15 assists in a total of 59 games. With his team he failed in the playoffs for the Gagarin Cup in the first round to Salawat Julajew Ufa .

In the 2010/11 season Subbotin was able to increase to 36 scorer points, including 15 goals, in 48 games. Then at the end of January 2011 he was handed over by Awtomobilist to the top club Lokomotive Yaroslavl , because his club could no longer reach the playoffs. For Yaroslavl he completed 17 KHL games and then returned to Awtomobilist.

In the 2012/13 season Subbotin was under contract with Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk .

International

For the Soviet Union , Subbotin took part in the junior division of the U18 European Junior Championship in 1991 . For Russia he was in the 2003 Euro Hockey Tour roster .
