Stephan Haering

Stephan Haering OSB (* as Bernhard Haering on September 15, 1959 in Grafenau ) is a German Catholic theologian and canon lawyer .

Life

Stephan Haering entered the Benedictine Abbey of St. Michael in Metten in 1978 after graduating from high school . In 1979 he made his profession and received the religious name Stephan . After studying theology, he was ordained a priest in 1984 . Stephan Haering also studied history and German and canon law at the universities of Salzburg , Munich and Washington . He was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD and in 1996 in Munich as Dr. iur. can. habilitation.

From 1997 to 2001 he was a full professor for canon law at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , since then he has held the chair for canon law, in particular administrative law and church legal history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

He is a judge at the Archbishop's Consistory and Metropolitan Court in Munich, advisor to the Faith Commission of the German Bishops 'Conference , member of the Canon Law Working Group of the German Bishops' Conference and managing editor and editor of the magazine Archive for Catholic Church Law .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him in October 2005 as an employee of the special secretariat for the XI. Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops . He has been a member of the University Council of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt since January 2012 . Haering also belongs to the Bavarian Benedictine Academy . Since October 2009 he has been an honorary member of the student association KDSt.V. Trifels Munich in the CV .

Haering is co-editor of an encyclopedia of canon law and author of numerous canonical as well as church and order historical writings. He also wrote numerous articles in the Biographical-Bibliographical Church Lexicon (BBKL).
