The Archive for Catholic Canon Law (AfkKR) is the world's oldest still-published specialist canon law journal . In volumes that appear every six months, it contains articles on canon law, the history of canon law and state church law, a church chronicle, documentation of church and church-relevant state decrees and an extensive directory of current canonical publications. The magazine was first published in Innsbruck in 1856 , then from 1862 to 1998 by Verlag Kirchheim + Co GmbH, Mainz , and since 1999 by Ferdinand Schöningh , Paderborn .

Since 1960, the journal has been edited by the active professors of the Canon Institute of the University of Munich , which was renamed "Klaus-Mörsdorf-Studium für Canonistik" on July 1, 2001. Until now in Munich as an editor working Klaus Mörsdorf (†) (in collaboration with Karl Weinzierl (†), Audomar Scheuermann (†), Heribert Schmitz (†), Walter Doskocil (†)) and Winfried Ayman (with the cooperation of Heribert Schmitz Richard A. Strigl (†) and Karl-Theodor Geringer ).

The Archive for Catholic Canon Law is currently being edited by Stephan Haering OSB (with the assistance of Elmar Güthoff and Helmuth Pree ).

In 1993, the magazine was awarded the "Arturo Carlo Jemolo" prize due to its continuity, richness of articles and efforts to ensure constant cultural "aggiornamento" in the publication of mainly canonical writings.
