Helmuth Pree

Helmuth Pree (born May 3, 1950 in Reichenthal , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian canon lawyer .

Life

Pree studied law at the Johannes Kepler University Linz and then canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and Catholic theology at the Catholic-Theological Private University Linz . He completed his habilitation in Linz with a thesis on canon law. 1983 Pree was in Linz for professor of canon law called , in 1988, he moved to the chair of canon law at the University of Passau .

In 2004 he became chair of canon law, in particular for the theological foundations of canon law, general norms and constitutional law, and for oriental canon law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Act

Helmuth Pree's main research areas are theological, legal philosophical and legal theoretical foundations of canon law as well as its basic concepts and foundations. He also deals with canonical methodology.

He has been a member of the Legal Commission of the Association of Dioceses in Germany since 1997. In 2004, Pree was appointed Vice-President of the Consociato Internationalis Studio Iuris Canonici Promovendo , the worldwide association of scholars of canon law based in Rome, which has existed for 5 decades.

On April 15, 2011, Pree was received by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Consultor of the Pontifical Council on Legal Texts .

Helmuth Pree has been an honorary member of the Catholic student association KaV Austro-Danubia zu Linz in the ÖCV since 1986 .
