Hans Paarhammer

Johann Paarhammer (born April 3, 1947 in Hallwang ; † August 9, 2020 ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic priest and canon lawyer .

Life

After graduating from the Archbishop's private grammar school in Borromäum in 1966 , Paarhammer studied theology and philosophy at the University of Salzburg . After his ordination in 1971, he celebrated his primacy in the parish church of St. Martin in his hometown and became a cooperator in Gnigl and Strobl . In 1976 he received his doctorate in theology in canon law and completed a canonical degree in Salzburg and Munich. From 1982 to 1993 he was also the official of the diocesan and metropolitan court of the Archdiocese of Salzburg , whose vice-official (judicial vicar) he had been since 1977. At the same time he was pastor of Koppl .

In 1977 he was given a teaching position at the theological faculty of the University of Salzburg, of which he was dean from 1987 to 1989, habilitated in canon law at the University of Graz in 1982, became a full university professor in Salzburg in 1982 and a full consistorial councilor in the consistory of the Archdiocese of Salzburg in 1983 and a member of the Salzburg Cathedral Chapter .

Archbishop Georg Eder appointed him Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Salzburg in 1993 and thus successor to Jakob Mayr until he was replaced by Johann Reissmeier in 1999 .

In 1996, Paarhammer was appointed Consultor of the Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legal Texts by Pope John Paul II . Since 2001 he has been President of the International Research Center on Fundamental Science. From 1982 to 1989 he was a member of the board of directors and presidium at the Salzburg University Weeks.

Paarhammer gave its name to the “Hans Paarhammer Medal”, which is awarded to deserving members of the Salzburg rifle club . Paarhammer was the superior of the Salzburg shooters for many years.

He was buried on August 14, 2020 in the priestly grave in Hallwang .
