The Badge of Honor of the State of Salzburg is a multi-level award given by the State of Salzburg . After the ring of the state of Salzburg, it is one of the highest honors in this state.

Basics of the award

The basis for the award of the medal of the state of Salzburg has been laid down in the Act on the Medal of Honor of the State of Salzburg (Salzburg Act of Honor) of 7 February 2001. The original seven-level award was reduced to five levels by a change in the law on July 4, 2007.

“The Badge of Honor of the State of Salzburg can be awarded for outstanding services, acquired through public or private work, to the reputation of the State of Salzburg and in areas that are in the process of being implemented.” (Salzburg Badge of Honor Act, Section 3.1). It may only be awarded as long as the merits have not been recognized by another award from the country. The award of the respective levels depends on the degree of merit, whereby people who have already been awarded the badge of honor can only receive a higher level award after at least five years.

The award of the decorations takes place on proposal, whereby the award proposals can be made by the district administrative authorities but also by individuals, in particular by municipalities or statutory professional representatives. The award is made by the state government; in addition to the award itself, the recipient is given a certificate signed by the governor. The awardees are then entitled to wear the award and to describe themselves as the bearer of the respective award. In addition, the awardees have the option of wearing the award on a reduced scale or the ribbon in the form of a rosette or a narrow bar. The award itself becomes the property of the awardee.

Order levels

Due to the change in the law in July 2007, the original seven-level award was reduced to five levels. The Grand Cross and the Great were originally followed by the Golden and Silver Badges of Honor, the Golden and Silver Badges of Merit and the Silver Medal of Merit. The five lowest levels were replaced by the Badge of Honor, the Great Badge of Merit and the Badge of Merit.

Grand Cross of the Medal of Honor of the State of Salzburg

The grand cross consists of a pectoral cross and a neck decoration on the ribbon. The wearer wears the pectoral cross on the left side and the jewel on the ribbon around his neck. The pectoral cross is a twelve-pointed, golden bordered, white enameled cross with a red enameled border, raised by an enamelled coat of arms and bordered with a golden laurel wreath. It has a size of 78 mm in diameter.

The jewel is a scaled-down representation of the pectoral cross with a diameter of 55 mm, the ribbon is 47 mm wide and red and white moiré. The connection between the ribbon and the gem is made by a 26 mm long and 6 mm wide, golden eyelet decorated with oak leaves.
