The BK Donetsk ( Ukrainian БК Донецьк ) is a Ukrainian professional basketball club in Donetsk . The club plays in the Ukrainian Super League and in the VTB United League .

history

Even in the days of the Soviet Union there was a basketball club in Donetsk called "Shakhtar". The club was considered a cup team. After Ukraine gained independence, "Shakhtar" took second and third place in the Ukrainian championship several times and played 24 times in the European Cups.

After "Shakhtar" was dissolved, the idea to found the first professional basketball club in Donetsk arose in 2006. After it was founded, the club immediately made it through two lower beds and has been playing in the Ukrainian super league since 2008. Since then, the Donetsk has managed to take second place in the Ukrainian championship twice (2009, 2011). In the 2011/12 season Donetsk won the Ukrainian championship for the first time.
