Saint Thomas Basket Le Havre is a French basketball club from Le Havre in the Normandy region . The professional first team played in the top national league LNB Pro A from 2000 to 2016 . The club has only taken part twice in official international club competitions in the European competition EuroChallenge , which can be classified as a rather weaker one .

history

In 1924, on the initiative of the Pineau brothers, a basketball department was set up in the Union sportive de Saint Thomas d'Aquin association founded in 1903 . In 1932 this was one of the founding members of the French basketball association FFBB . From 1952, the club played first class, but disappeared in the mid-1960s in regional leagues before he rose again in 1974 in the fourth-highest league in a national league. Following the promotion to the third highest division in 1987, the march through to the second highest division Nationale 2 succeeded. With the establishment of the professional departments of the Ligue Nationale de Basket , STB found itself in the lower house Pro B from 1993, which corresponded to the second highest division. From this, the promotion to the top division Pro A succeeded in 2000.

After having only just barely achieved relegation twice in the Pro A, they qualified twice for the play-offs for the French championship in 2003 and 2004 , where they were eliminated in the first round. This was enough in 2003 for the qualification of the then FIBA Europe League , which was played for the first time in a European club competition. In a group with the eventual winner UNICS Kazan , they were eliminated early as the penultimate. In the three years after 2004, play-off placements and missed play-offs alternated with an almost balanced point account. In 2008 they achieved their best placement up to then with fifth place after the main round, but in the following play-offs they lost to the better-placed defending champion Chorale Roanne , when both teams were able to dominate their home games clearly. In the following season they took part again in the now called EuroChallenge, but they were eliminated without a win after six defeats in the first round in a group that was comparatively well occupied for this competition. In the national championship, too, things went much worse when you had a “subscription” to the 14th and last non-relegation place in the following seasons, which you could only improve slightly in 2011 with 13th place.

The season 2015/16 Le Havre could finish only 18th and last place. Therefore, for the 2016/17 season, you will be relegated to the LNB Pro B.
