Jeffrey David Greer (born November 30, 1979 in Bronx , New York City ) is an American - Dominican basketball player . Greer after studying in his native country a career as a professional in Europe, where he mainly in the French LNB Pro A played. Here he won the French championship once in two different teams with his brother Ricardo, who was two years older than him. After a season in the German basketball league 2011/12 at EnBW Ludwigsburg, the two brothers played together again at Strasbourg IG in the 2012/13 season, but only narrowly missed a second championship success for this club after 2005 as runner-up.

Career

Greer studied in the United States at Rutgers University , where he was active from 1997 to 2001 for the college team Scarlet Knights , which then played in the Big East Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). While his brother Jeff, who was playing in the Big East for the Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh at the same time , was able to achieve a championship final in the Big East in 2001, Jeff celebrated with the Scarlet Knights, whose basketball team had its most successful period in the 1970s, no particular success and only had a positive season record in the 1998/99 season, which was not enough to participate in the national NCAA finals . With two " postseason " participations in the National Invitation Tournament it was enough to win a total of three games in this competition. Jeff Greer is listed in the Scarlet Knights' team's eternal best list for successful three-point throws , assists and ball wins among the "top ten".

In the summer of 2001 Jeff Greer played together with his brother Ricardo, initially in the country of origin of their ancestors for Los Padros in the Distrito Nacional of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Then Jeff signed a professional contract in February 2002 with the club Jeanne d'Arc (JA) from Vichy in the second French league LNB Pro B, which reached the championship of Pro B and promotion to the top division at the end of the season. After Jeff played again with his brother, who had terminated the contract early at his first professional station in the Ukraine , at the Diablos from La Vega in the summer of 2002 , Jeff returned to Vichy, while Ricardo went to league rivals Saint Thomas Basket from Le Havre also moved to France. Jeff reached an eleventh place in the table with newly promoted Vichy and won a silver medal with the Dominican Republic national team at the 2003 Pan American Games as the host after losing the gold medal final against Brazil by 27 points. Jeff now also moved to Le Havre for the 2003/04 season, in which Ricardo, however, played in the British Basketball League . With STB Le Havre as sixth in the main round, Jeff was eliminated in the first play-off round for the championship title.

In the 2004/05 season, both brothers found their first team outside of the Dominican Republic at Illkirch-Graffenstaden Basket in Strasbourg . The team of this club had kept the class in 2003 only by increasing the league. After the team was eliminated in the first play-off round against defending champion Élan Béarnais Pau-Orthez in 2004, the balance of power had reversed in the 2004/05 season. In the first play-off round you were able to eliminate the sixth from Pau as third in the table and completely dethrone Nancy after winning the championship final over SLUC. In the following season the team played in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2005/06 , where they could only win three of 14 preliminary round games and were eliminated early. In the French championship this time they lost in the semifinals against SLUC Nancy, who in turn became runner-up. Then the two brothers parted ways at first. While Ricardo switched to previous competitor Élan Béarnais Pau-Orthez, Jeff went to Hapoel Ironi from Naharija in the Israeli Ligat ha'Al , which at the end of the 2006/07 season in fifth place in the final table narrowly made it into the Final Four tournament missed for the championship title.

The Stade Lorrain Université Club (SLUC) from Nancy , who had lost three consecutive times to changing teams the championship finals, committed to the 2007/08 season, the two Greer brothers and was actually in second place in the main round in the final of the play-offs defending Chorale Roanne with Dethrone 31 points difference and also like Strasbourg IG three years earlier celebrating their first title win in the championship. In contrast to the 2005 championship with Strasbourg IG, this time Jeff was “ Most Valuable Player ” (MVP) in the final instead of his brother . In the ULEB Euroleague 2008/09 was the first time the club participated in this competition with only two wins in ten games after the preliminary round again and in the championship they lost the play-off semi-final series against the fourth in regular time Main round first and later title holder ASVEL . In the following season 2009/10 they ended the season a place worse and were eliminated in the first play-off round against the Basket Club Maritime from Gravelines . Jeff moved to this club on the English Channel , with which his brother had already become runner-up at the end of the 2004 season, for the 2010/11 season. In February 2011 they won the league cup "Semaine de As" and reached fourth in the main round again the semi-final series of the play-offs, which was lost to defending champion Cholet Basket .

After Jeff Greer did not have a new contract at the beginning of the 2011/12 season and trained with the Strasbourg IG team, to which his brother had already returned in the previous season, he was signed by the German club from Ludwigsburg in November 2011 . In a less than successful season, the team just managed to stay third from bottom after a change of coach. The two Greer brothers were reunited in the 2012/13 season when Jeff returned to Strasbourg IG on the other side of the Rhine . In addition, Louis Campbell moved from the other Württemberg first division club Tigers Tübingen to Alsace , where three protagonists of the first championship win in 2005 were gathered with the Greers and the former French national player Aymeric Jeanneau . As second in the main round they remained unbeaten in the play-offs and reached the championship final, which was played for the first time again as a play-off series in " best-of-five " mode instead of in a single game as before. Opponent of the final series was last year's climber JSF Nanterre , who had reached the play-offs for the first time in the club's history as the main round eight only because of the better direct comparison, but was also unbeaten in these before. In the first final game in front of a home crowd, Strasbourg IG was able to inflict the first play-off defeat on the upstart with a difference of 34 points. However, the following three finals were lost against the Paris suburb club, so that the two Greer brothers lost a joint championship final in France for the first time.
