The Brazilian men's national basketball team represents Brazil at international basketball matches. So far she has taken part in all world championships (first held in 1950) and won this competition twice. Her last big title win so far was the American Championship in 2009 .

history

The national team's most successful period was in the 1950s and 1960s. During this time she reached the semifinals of the World Championships six times in a row (1950-1970), three times (1948, 1960, 1964) she won the Olympic bronze medal. The most important players, especially in the World Cup triumphs in 1959 and 1963, were Amaury Pasos and Wlamir Marques , later Ubiratan Maciel in particular took over the leading role. From the end of the 1970s, alongside Marcel de Souza and Marcos “Marquinhos” Leite, Oscar Schmidt in particular became the focal point of the team. He remained their outstanding scorer until the 1990s and surprisingly led Brazil to a final triumph against the USA at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis . From the 2000s, Brazilian players such as Nenê , Leandro Barbosa , Anderson Varejão and Tiago Splitter increasingly established themselves in the NBA . While these achieved some successes in the following years, such as winning the American Championship twice, without the NBA players they missed qualifying for a world championship for the first time due to the preliminary round at the American Championship 2013 .
