American Championship 2011

The American Basketball Championship 2013 (officially: Campeonato FIBA Americas 2013 ( English The FIBA Americas Championship 2013 )) was the 16th edition of this tournament and took place from August 30th to September 11th, 2013 in the Venezuelan capital Caracas . In addition to the continental championship for the men's national teams of the continental association FIBA America, the tournament also included qualification for the 2014 World Basketball Championship . Of the ten participating teams, the four semi-finalists qualified directly for the world championships. Since Olympic champions United States were already directly qualified for the world championships, they did not participate in the continental championships. The games were played exclusively in the Poliedro de Caracas . For the first time at an American Championship, the selection of Mexico won the title.

Attendees

The qualification is based on the regional sub-zones of the Continental Association. In addition to the North American teams United States and Canada, the medal winners of the previous Central American championship "Centrobasket" and the South American basketball championship are also qualified . If the host of the American Championship is among the semi-finalists of these regional championships or as a North American participant, all semi-finalists are also qualified for the continental championships.

* The game Paraguay against Dominican Republic had to be canceled four minutes and 23 seconds before the end due to a power failure when the score was 54:83. The game was not resumed and was included in the scoring with this result. The defeat of Paraguay meant the elimination of the team after the preliminary round from the tournament, so the actual final result was also irrelevant for the play-off of the intermediate round.
