Gustavo Alfonso Ayón Aguirre (born April 1, 1985 in Tepic ) is a Mexican basketball player . He plays in the position of the power forward .

career

Gustavo Ayón began his career on the basketball team of the Universidad Popular Autónoma de Puebla , where he was active from 2003 to 2006. In his senior year, he was named the MVP of the Mexican University Championship. For the 2006/07 season, the San José State University signed him to compete for their team, the Spartans , in the NCAA . Ayón decided to try his luck as a professional in his homeland and signed for Halcones UV Xalapa . With these he won the Mexican championship in 2007/08 and 2008/09 . In 2009, the Spanish first division club CB Fuenlabrada signed him, but loaned him to the Venezuelan club Marinos de Anzoategui , where he also won the championship. The 2009/10 season began Ayón at BC Illescas, a team associated with Fuenlabrada who played the third division at that time, but was awarded during the season to the second division Tenerife Rural .

Gustavo Ayón made his sporting breakthrough in the 2010/11 season. At CB Fuenlabrada he not only secured himself a regular place, but was chosen because of his strong performance as a power forward to discover the season of the ACB league. On average, he achieved 10.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.

At the end of December 2011, he agreed with his club on a release to switch to the North American professional league NBA , where he accepted an offer from the New Orleans Hornets . For the 2012/2013 season, Ayon was transferred from the Hornets to the Orlando Magic . In February 2013 the Magic Ayón transferred to the Milwaukee Bucks . Before the 2013-14 season , he was hired as a free agent by the Atlanta Hawks .

After three years in the NBA, he returned to Spain in September 2014, where he signed for Real Madrid .

National team

Gustavo Ayón has been an integral part of the Mexican national team since 2007 . With her he won the American Championship in 2013 , he himself was named the most valuable player of the tournament. At the Central American Championships in 2014 he also won gold with his national team and finished the tournament as MVP. Furthermore denied Ayón with Mexico, the 2014 World Cup , the America Cup in 2007 and 2009 as well as the Central American Championships of 2008 and of 2010.
