Career
societies
Garbajosa began his career at Juventud Alcalá , a club from Alcalá de Henares . At the age of 16, he moved to the junior division of Taugrés . At the traditional Basque club, he made his debut in the professional team on December 9, 1995, in a league match against CB Peñas Huesca . Garbajosa won the European Cup Winners' Cup in his first season, followed by success in the Spanish Cup in 1998/99 . In the summer of 2000 he moved to the Italian Lega Basket Serie A for Benetton Treviso , with whom he won two championship (2001/02, 2002/03) cup (2003, 2004) and Supercup (2001, 2002) wins . He also reached the final of the ULEB Euroleague 2002/03 with his club . After four years abroad, Garbajosa returned to his homeland, where he signed for Unicaja Málaga . As MVP , he led the Andalusians to victory in the 2004/05 Spanish Cup and a year later to their first title in the Spanish championship, where he was named the most valuable player in the final series.
In 2006 he made the jump to the NBA . With the Toronto Raptors he was already the second Spanish signing within a year after José Calderón .
On 26 March 2007, Garbajosa drew in a game against the Boston Celtics , among others, a serious injury to the left ankle, broken fibula . Nevertheless, he was voted into the selection team of the best rookies of the season, the NBA All-Rookie First Team . At the beginning of the following season he had to have another operation, so that it was over for him after only seven games. The leadership of the Raptors accused him of having restarted the game too early in order to be able to take part in the 2007 European Championship for Spain, and thus to have carried out the second operation too late. He returned to Europe before the end of his contract and signed with BK Chimki in July 2008 . With this club Garbajosa reached the final of the Eurocup in 2009 . After a year in Russia, he moved to Real Madrid in his home country . After a season and a half with the Spanish record champions, he received approval from his club in January 2011. On March 14, 2011, he moved to league rivals Unicaja Málaga , where he had played from 2004 to 2006. When he debuted five days later, he was instrumental in the dramatic victory over his former team (69:68 after extra time). After a disappointing 2011/12 season in which his club failed to qualify for the championship play-off as ninth in the regular season, Jorge Garbajosa announced his retirement from active basketball and switched to basketball in June 2012 at the age of 34 Support staff of the Spanish basketball association .
Spanish national team
Garbajosa took part in the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics with the Spanish national basketball team. He also won bronze at the European Championships in 2001 and silver in 2003 .
He achieved his greatest success by winning the title at the 2006 World Cup in Japan . In the final Garbajosa scored 20 points and 10 rebounds and was therefore instrumental in the 70:47 success against Greece . In addition, he was elected to the selection team of the best players of the tournament.
For the 2007 European Championship in his own country, Garbajosa was in danger of being sidelined due to the injury suffered in March of that year. However, an agreement was reached with the Raptors the day before the European Championship, so that he was appointed to the Spanish squad instead of Jordi Trias . The Spanish team won the silver medal in the European Championship. Also for the Olympic Games 2008 Garbajosa was in the squad of the Spaniards and reached the final there.
At the European Championships in Poland in 2009 , he won the gold medal with Spain.
In June 2011 Garbajosa announced his resignation from the national team.
