Tiago Splitter Beims (born January 1, 1985 in Blumenau ) is a former Brazilian basketball player . Between 2010 and 2017 he played in the US professional league NBA . The Brazilian national player and Olympic participant is a descendant of German immigrants and has both Brazilian and Spanish citizenship .
Player career
Tiago Splitter began his career with the Ipiranga-Badesc youth team in Brazil. In 2000 he moved to Spain, where he got a contract with Tau Cerámica . However, the team from Vitoria-Gasteiz loaned the young Brazilian to Araba Gorago Alava in the EBA league for the 2000/01 season . He was also awarded for the 2001/02 season; this time at CB Bilbao Berri in LEB -2. With this team he played in the LEB-1 in 2002/03. 2003/04 Splitter played his first season for Tau Cerámica in the ACB League .
In the 2007 NBA Draft , Splitter was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round in 28th place in the Entry Draft . Splitter initially stayed in Spain for a few years before moving to the NBA for Spurs for the 2010/11 season. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season he was active for the duration of the lockout for the Spanish first division club Valencia Basket Club . On June 30, 2015, he moved to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for draft picks . He spent little there due to injuries. On February 22, 2017, Splitter was transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers . He only played 8 games this season, after which he announced his retirement due to hip problems.

- Tiago Splitter won the gold medal with the Brazilian national team at the 2003 Pan American Games . In addition, he won the American Championship twice with Brazil (2005 and 2009) and the South American Championship (2003 and 2005). He also played at the 2002 , 2006 , 2010, and 2014 World Basketball Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games for his home country.
- At the South American Championships 2003 Splitter was elected to the All-Tournament First Team .
- He won the Spanish Copa del Rey twice with Tau Cerámica (2004 and 2006). He was also able to win the Spanish SuperCup twice with the team (2005 and 2006).
- Splitter was elected to the All-Tournament First Team of the 2007/08 Euroleague season and the All-Tournament Second Team of the 2008/09 and 2009/10 Euroleague seasons .
- After the main round of the 2009/10 season in the ACB league , he received the award as MVP of the league.
- Splitter won his first NBA championship with the Spurs in 2014 , after having been narrowly inferior to the Miami Heat the year before .
