Elmer Bennett

Elmer James Bennett (born February 13,  1970 in Evanston (Illinois) ) is a retired American basketball player .

career

Bennett played at the University of Notre Dame in his home country from 1988 to 1992 . The 1.83-meter-long superstructure player achieved 12 points per match during this time and prepared 4.2 basket successes for his opponents per game. In the second round (38th position) of the NBA draft process  in 1992, the rights to Bennett went to the Atlanta Hawks . But before the start of the 1992/93 NBA season, Bennett was removed from the squad. He first gained professional experience in the US league CBA . By 1997 Bennett came there with different teams on 154 missions. In 1997 he won the CBA championship with the Oklahoma City Cavalry.

In the meantime, he has received several short-term contracts from NBA teams: At the beginning of October 1994, the Portland Trailblazers provided him with a working paper, and at the end of the month they separated. In late January 1995 he signed a ten-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers , from early October 1995 to November 20, 1995 he was in the service of the Philadelphia 76ers , in October 1996 he was contractually  bound to the San Antonio Spurs . Between late November 1996 to December 21, 1996 he was a player with the Houston Rockets , in January 1997 he was  under contract with the Denver Nuggets . Bennett played a total of 21 NBA games for Cleveland, Philadelphia, Houston and Denver and scored an average of 2.3 points per game.

Bennett gained his first experience in Europe in the spring of 1995 when he played seven games for Scavolini Pesaro (Italy) (18.4 points / game). In the 1995/96 season he was temporarily under contract with Jet Lyon in the French Ligue Nationale de Basket (13 games: 19.5 points / game). In the fall of 1997 he joined the Spanish first division club Tau Céramica . The playmaker stayed there until 2003. In 2002 he won the Spanish championship with the team. Bennett played a big part in the success, averaging 12.4 points and distributing 5.8 assists that led to basket successes. In 1999 and 2002 he also won the Spanish Cup with Tau Céramica. 2001 Bennett stood with the team in the Euroleague final series and lost to Virtus Bologna . At Tau Céramica, Bennett counted Luis Scola , Laurent Foirest and Fabricio Oberto among his team- mates .

From 2003 to 2005 he was under contract with Real Madrid . He won the Spanish championship title with Real in the 2004/05 season, in the 2003/04 season they reached the final of the ULEB Cup , but lost there. As a result of his departure from Madrid, Bennett played for Joventut da Badalona from 2005 to 2007 and won the European club competition EuroCup with the team under coach Aíto García Reneses in spring 2006 . He completed his playing career at CDB Sevilla , in October 2008 he retired from competitive sports.
