The district of Checca is located in the province of Canas in the region of Cusco in south-central Peru . The district was founded on August 29, 1834. It has an area of ​​504 km². The 2017 census counted 5485 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5983, in 2007 it was 5590. The district administration is located in the village of Checca with 470 inhabitants at an altitude of 3810  m (as of 2017). Checca is located about 30 km south of the provincial capital Yanaoca .

Geographical location

The district of Checca is located in the Andean highlands in the southwest of the province of Canas. The upper reaches of the Río Apurímac crosses the district in a northerly direction.

The district of Checca borders in the south on the districts Pichigua and Coporaque (both in the province of Espinar ), in the west on the district Livitaca ( province Chumbivilcas ), in the north on the district Quehue , in the extreme northeast on the district Langui and in the east on the Kunturkanki District .
