The Coporaque district is located in the Espinar Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district founded on August 29, 1834 has an area of ​​1543 km². At the 2017 census, there were 10,929 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 13,590, in 2007 15,838. The seat of the district administration is the town of Coporaque at an altitude of 3942  m with 284 inhabitants (as of 2017). Coporaque is 13 km west of the provincial capital Yauri .

Geographical location

The Coporaque district is located in the Andean highlands in the west of the Espinar province. The Río Sañu, a left tributary of the Río Apurímac , flows east along the southern district boundary . The Río Apurímac forms the eastern boundary of the district. The Río Qquero, another left tributary of the Río Apurímac, crosses the central part of the district in an easterly direction.

The Coporaque district borders in the west on the Santo Tomás district ( Chumbivilcas province ), in the northwest on the Velille and Livitaca districts (also in the Chumbivilcas province), in the northeast on the Checca district ( Canas province ), in the east on the Pichigua and districts Espinar , in the south to the districts of Tisco ( Caylloma province ) and Suyckutambo and in the southwest to the Caylloma district (Caylloma province).
