The district of Ocoruro is located in the province of Espinar in the region of Cusco in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 359 km². The 2017 census counted 1104 residents. In 1993 the population was 1918, in 2007 it was 1669. The district administration is based in the village of Ocoruro with 179 inhabitants at an altitude of 4093 m (as of 2017). Ocoruro is 42 km southeast of the provincial capital Yauri .
Geographical location
The district of Ocoruro is located in the Andean highlands in the southeast of the province of Espinar. The Río Ocoruro, a left tributary of the Río Salado , flows through the district in a north-northwest direction.
The Ocoruro district borders in the northwest on the Espinar district , in the northeast on the Pallpata district , in the south on the Condoroma district and in the southwest on the Tisco district ( Caylloma province ).
