The Caylloma Province is one of eight provinces in the Arequipa region in southern Peru . The province has an area of 14,019.46 km². In the 2017 census, 86,771 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 45,236, in 2007 73,718. The provincial administration is located in the small town of Chivay .
Geographical location
The Caylloma province is located about 700 km southeast of the state capital Lima . It stretches across the Peruvian Western Cordillera and has a length in NE-SW direction of over 210 km. The upper reaches of the Río Camaná , the Río Colca , crosses the area in a westerly direction. The Mismi and Sabancaya volcanoes rise in the province .
The province of Caylloma borders in the southwest with the province Camaná , in the west with the province Castilla , in the north with the region Cusco , in the east with the region Puno and in the southeast with the province Arequipa .
Administrative division
The Caylloma Province is divided into 20 districts (distritos) . The district of Chivay is the seat of the provincial administration.
