The Caylloma District is located in the Caylloma Province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on May 3, 1955. It has an area of ​​1505 km². The 2017 census counted 3,697 inhabitants. In 1993, the population was 5,191, in 2007 at 4041. The district administration is in the 4310  m high altitude town Caylloma with 3,192 inhabitants (2017). Caylloma is located 53 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Chivay .

Geographical location

The Caylloma District is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the extreme northwest of the Caylloma Province. The continental divide runs through the district. The Río Apurímac has its headwaters in the district and drains a large part of the area. In the west of the district, the southern part is drained via the Río Molloco, a tributary of the Río Colca . The northern part, however , is drained to the north via the Río Velille , a tributary of the Río Apurímac.

The district of Caylloma borders in the southwest on the district Tapay , in the west on the districts Choco and Chachas (both in the province Castilla ), in the extreme north on the district Cayarani ( province Condesuyos ), in the northeast on the districts Coporaque and Suyckutambo (both in the province of Espinar ), in the southeast to the districts of Tisco and Sibayo and in the south to the districts of Tuti and Lari .
