The district of San Antonio de Chuca is located in the Caylloma Province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on November 14, 1944. It has an area of ​​1540 km². The 2017 census counted 886 residents. In 1993 the population was 1029, in 2007 it was 1415. The district administration is located in the 4525  m high village of Imata with 422 inhabitants (as of 2017). Imata is about 60 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Chivay .

Geographical location

The district of San Antonio de Chuca is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the far east of the Caylloma province. The landscape consists mostly of desert.

The district of San Antonio de Chuca is bordered by the district of San Juan de Tarucani to the south, the district of Yura (both in the province of Arequipa ) to the southwest, the district of Yanque to the west, the district of Callalli to the north and the districts to the east Santa Lucía ( Lampa Province ) and Cabanillas District ( San Román Province ).
