The Camaná Province is one of eight provinces in the Arequipa region on the Pacific coast in southern Peru . The province has an area of 3998.28 km². At the 2017 census, 59,370 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 42,403, in 2007 53,065. The provincial administration is located in the small town of Camaná .
Geographical location
The province of Camaná is located about 670 km south-southeast of the state capital Lima . It extends over an approximately 130 km long stretch of coast in the WNW-OSE direction. The province extends up to almost 50 km inland. The area has very little rainfall and has a desert landscape. Several rivers, including the Río Ocoña , Río Camaná and Río Quilca , cross the province from the mountains to the sea.
The province of Camaná borders on the province of Caravelí to the west, the provinces of Condesuyos , Castilla and Caylloma to the north and the provinces of Arequipa and Islay to the east .
Administrative division
The province of Camaná is divided into eight districts (distritos) . The Camaná district is the seat of the provincial administration.
