The Ocoña district is located in the Camaná province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. The Ocoña district has an area of 1421 km². The 2017 census counted 4,171 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4295, in 2007 4540. The seat of the district administration is the 12 m high village of Ocoña with 1365 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ocoña is located on the east bank of the Río Ocoña immediately above its confluence with the Pacific Ocean . Ocoña is 47 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Camaná . The national road 1S (Panamericana ) runs along the sea coast.
Geographical location
The district of Ocoña is located in the southwest of the province of Camaná. The district has an approximately 35 km long coastline and reaches almost 50 km inland. The area consists mainly of desert. Irrigated agriculture is only practiced along the course of the Río Ocoña.
The Ocoña district borders on the Atico district ( Caravelí province ) in the west, the Mariano Nicolás Valcárcel district in the north-west, the Andaray district in the north, the Chuquibamba district (the last two in the Condesuyos province ) in the north-east and the south-east the Mariscal Cáceres district .
