The Samuel Pastor district is located in the Camaná province in the Arequipa region in southwest Peru . The district was founded on November 3, 1944. The district was named after Samuel Pastor Caballero, a local personality from the 19th century who was instrumental in the urban development of Camaná and La Pampa.
The Samuel Pastor District has an area of 113.4 km². The 2017 census counted 15,950 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 8,786, in 2007 it was 13,142. The district administration is based in the 26 m high city of La Pampa with 9194 inhabitants (as of 2017). La Pampa forms an eastern suburb of the provincial capital Camaná . The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) runs along the sea coast.
Geographical location
The Samuel Pastor district is centrally located on the coast of the Camaná province. The district extends along the eastern edge of the river valley of the Río Camaná , where irrigated agriculture is practiced. The district, however, consists predominantly of desert-like hill country that extends in the east to the sea coast.
The Samuel Pastor district borders the Camaná and José María Quimper districts to the west, the Nicolás de Piérola district to the north, the Majes district ( Caylloma province ) to the north and the Quilca district to the east .
