Yauri (or Espinar ) is the capital of the Espinar Province in central southern Peru in the Cusco region . It is the administrative seat of the Espinar district . The 2017 census counted 28,888 inhabitants, 10 years earlier the population was 23,867.

Geographical location

The city, located at an altitude of 3976  m in the Andean highlands , is 150 km south-southeast of the regional capital Cusco , 170 km west-northwest from the north shore of Lake Titicaca and 680 km east-southeast of the state capital Lima . The upper reaches of the Río Apurímac runs 8 km west of the city in a northerly direction. The Tintaya copper mine is located about 15 km southeast of the city.
