The Livitaca district is located in the Chumbivilcas province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district founded on January 2, 1857 has an area of 747 km². The 2017 census counted 12,557 residents. In 1993 the population was 9384, in 2007 it was 11,516. The district administration is located in the 3752 m high village of Livitaca with 1537 inhabitants (as of 2017). Livitaca is located 45 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Santo Tomás .
Geographical location
The Livitaca district is located in the east of the Chumbivilcas province. The district is located in the Andean highlands . The Río Apurímac flows along the northeastern district boundary to the northwest. Its left tributary Río Livitaca drains the central part of the district to the north.
The Livitaca district borders in the west on the districts Velille , Chamaca and Omacha ( province Paruro ), in the northeast on the district Pomacanchi ( province Acomayo ), in the east on the districts Túpac Amaru , Yanaoca and Quehue (all three in the province Canas ), to the southeast to the Checca district (Canas province) and to the Coporaque district ( Espinar province) to the south .
