The Paruro Province is one of thirteen provinces in the Cusco Region in south-central Peru . It has an area of 1984 km². The 2017 census counted 25,567 inhabitants in the province. In 1993 the population was 34,361, in 2007 it was 30,939. The provincial administration is located in Paruro .
Geographical location
The province of Paruro is located in the Andean highlands about 30 km south of the regional capital Cusco . It has a lengthwise extension in NNW-SSE direction of about 82 km and an average width of about 20 km. The Río Apurímac crosses the province in a predominantly northwestern direction. Its tributary Río Santo Tomás runs along the western provincial border, the Río Velille flows centrally through the province in a northerly direction, the Río Livitaca runs along the eastern provincial border.
The province of Paruro borders on the province of Anta in the northwest , on the province of Cusco in the north, on the province of Acomayo in the east, on the province of Chumbivilcas in the south and on the province of Cotabambas ( region of Apurímac ) in the west .
Administrative division
The province of Paruro is divided into nine districts. The Paruro district is the seat of the provincial administration.
